Global warming has profoundly changed our understanding of our built environment. The urban landscape is an integral part of ecosystem instead of cultural construction devoid of nature. With the emergence of climate urgency, how can architecture sculpt our everyday environment to adapt us to the new climate regime?

The study starts with light radiation, the most fundamental element of life. While natural light is constantly shifting through time, architecture, where the walls and windows are fixed to let light in as a secondary element, is rather static. However, an elusive definition of space through light prevailed our daily practice: people gather in the shadow of the trees for lunch in a hot summer day and navigate to the pit fires in a cold winter night. The primitive instinct of light and space is lost in the material construction of modern architecture.

The project considers light as the primary agent sculpting the architectural form. It aims at reestablishing a daily routine and spatial order orchestrated by the light. Instead of room numbers, spaces are referred by their wavelength and illuminance qualities. A concert can be held in the space with direct and bright light on a sunny day and study desk can be found in a diffused blue light area. This speculative project reforms a symbiotic relationship among human, architecture, and the atmosphere.
